Sandomierz had already experienced a ritual murder accusation at the end of the previous century. This one proves fatal to it. The trial results in the expulsion of the community from the city, and the synagogue is converted to Catholic worship — the building changes its purpose, rendering the banishment irreversible in stone as much as in law.
The affair leaves a mark whose effects reach beyond the city: the canon Stefan Żuchowski draws from it a treatise that will long serve as an authority and provide arguments for other trials in Poland. A local accusation thus becomes a printed model, reusable elsewhere, and it is through this channel that eighteenth-century Poland will multiply blood libel trials.
