The community of Paderborn was destroyed during the Black Death.

The episcopal city of Westphalia readmitted Jews in the following century, under paid letters of protection, and its modern community reconstituted itself there; it was annihilated by the Shoah.

The bishop kept his Jews against payment, and this revenue disappeared with them; which is why the princes of the Church were often, after the fact, the first to recall them.
