The Priestly Blessing — "May God bless you and keep you" — is the oldest biblical text attested by archaeology: it has been found engraved on two silver amulets from Ketef Hinnom, in Jerusalem, dated to the end of the 7th century BCE. It is also the formula that parents still recite to their children on Friday evening. Few sentences have endured twenty-six centuries of continuous use.
