Son of Yitzhak and grandson of Vidal I, both eminent in Fès. The Hida counted him among « the geniuses of the West ». Encyclopedic scholar (citing Greek, Arabic and rabbinical philosophers) and physician, he left important biblical and midrashic commentaries. Part of his writings remain unpublished.
