Seelig ben Isaac Margolioth

Polish Talmudist of the 17th and 18th centuries, born in Polotsk, died probably in Palestine. Preacher in Prague then in Kalisz, he went to Yaroslav after the death of Israel Darshan, then was from 1701 to 1711 beneficiary of the study house of Bärmann Levi in Halberstadt, which finally sent him to Palestine. He is the author of the Kessef Nivhar, a homiletic commentary on the Pentateuch (Amsterdam, 1712), and of the Hibbouré Likkoutim (1715), a collection of novellas and talmudic responsa.

Talmudiste polonais des dix-septième et dix-huitième siècles ; né à Polock ; mort probablement en Palestine. Il fut prédicateur à Prague et à Kalisz ; et après la mort d'Israel Darshan il se rendit à Yaroslav. De 1701 à 1711 il fut bénéficiaire de la maison d'étude (bet ha-midrash) de Bärmann Levi à Halberstadt, et il fut finalement envoyé par son bienfaiteur en Palestine. Seelig fut l'auteur de « Kesef Nibḥar » (Amsterdam, 1712), un commentaire homilétique sur le Pentateuque, et de « Ḥibbure Liḳḳuṭim » (_ib._ 1715), collectanea comprenant des novelles talmudiques et des responsa.
