משה דוד גאון

Region: Travnik (Bosnie), puis Jérusalem

History register · custodian, not owner

Born in Bosnia, he became in the Land of Israel one of the great documenters of Sephardic and Eastern Judaism. His major work, Yehudei ha-Mizrah be-Eretz Yisrael (1928), gathers the biographies of several thousand rabbis, scholars and Sephardic notables linked to Eretz Israel. He also conducted pioneering work on the Me'am Lo'ez and Sephardic Hebrew poetry, notably through questionnaires sent to hundreds of personalities.

The days of this book

This book bears no memory day yet. The sources that document Moshe David Gaon give years and centuries, never a day; we do not invent one.
