Born in Venice into a wealthy Jewish family named Grassini (her father Amedeo, a lawyer and municipal councillor, developed the Lido). Art critic, journalist and writer, she ran an influential salon and promoted the Novecento artistic movement (1922). Wife of lawyer Cesare Sarfatti, she is best known under the name Margherita Sarfatti. Struck by the racial laws of 1938, she went into exile in South America before returning to Italy in 1947.
