Née à Venise dans une famille juive aisée du nom de Grassini (son père Amedeo, avocat et conseiller municipal, développa le Lido). Critique d'art, journaliste et écrivaine, elle anima un salon influent et promut le mouvement artistique Novecento (1922). Épouse de l'avocat Cesare Sarfatti, elle est surtout connue sous le nom de Margherita Sarfatti. Frappée par les lois raciales de 1938, elle s'exila en Amérique du Sud avant de rentrer en Italie en 1947.
