Tossafiste français, mort en martyr à Londres le 3 septembre 1189 lors des émeutes antijuives qui accompagnèrent le couronnement de Richard Ier, Jacob d'Orléans fut l'un des disciples les plus distingués de Rabbenou Tam, dont il portait souvent le nom. Encore à Orléans en 1171 selon l'« 'Emeḳ ha-Bakha », il s'était établi à Londres, probablement appelé comme enseignant ; ses tossafot, fréquemment citées, et ses gloses au Pentateuque — riches en guématries — figurent notamment dans le « Pa'neaḥ Raza » d'Isaac ben Juda ha-Lévi.
