Talmudiste allemand, arrière-petit-fils de Ẓebi Ashkenazi et élève de Meshullam Eger, Jacob ben Jacob Moïse de Lissa fut ab bet din à Kalisz puis à Lissa, avant de revenir exercer à Kalisz. Il mourut à Stryj, en Galicie, en 1832. Il laissa de nombreux commentaires talmudiques et halakhiques sur le Choulhan Aroukh, ainsi qu'un abrégé de lois très populaire, le « Derek ha-Ḥayyim », largement repris dans les livres de prières.
