Rabbin russo-polonais, mort à Kutno, dans le gouvernement de Varsovie, le 11 juillet 1893, à un âge avancé. Formé à la yeshiva fondée vers 1835 à Kukhari par R. Salomon Posner, il occupa diverses petites rabbinats jusqu'en 1860, date à laquelle il devint rabbin de Kutno — poste qu'il refusa constamment de quitter malgré des offres plus prestigieuses — et fut considéré par beaucoup comme la plus grande autorité talmudique de la Pologne russe. Il est l'auteur du « Yeshu'ot Yisrael », sur le Choulhan Aroukh, Ḥoshen Mishpaṭ (Varsovie, 1870), publié par son fils et successeur R. Moïse de Viskitke.
