Salomon Heydenfeldt est un juriste américain né à Charleston, en Caroline du Sud, en 1816, et mort à San Francisco le 15 septembre 1890. Parti pour l'Alabama à vingt et un ans, il y est admis au barreau et y exerce plusieurs années dans le comté de Tallapoosa, avant de quitter cet État en raison de ses vues sur l'esclavage pour s'installer en 1850 à San Francisco. De 1852 à 1857, il est juge associé de la Cour suprême de Californie, élu au suffrage direct — une première pour un Juif — et compte parmi les magistrats les plus estimés de son temps ; politicien démocrate de sensibilité sudiste, il soutient Breckinridge contre Lincoln.
