Philosophe religieux, né à Barcelone en 1340, mort en 1410, issu d'une famille illustre et savante. Disciple du talmudiste et philosophe Nissim ben Reuven, il devient une autorité talmudique et un philosophe d'une grande originalité, dont l'influence sur Spinoza est profonde ; parmi ses élèves figurent Joseph Albo et, parmi ses condisciples, Isaac ben Sheshet. Nommé en 1393 exécuteur testamentaire de son oncle par le roi et la reine d'Aragon, il fut emprisonné sur une fausse accusation en 1378 et perdit en 1391 son unique fils, martyr de sa foi ; il se rendit en 1401-02 auprès de Joseph Orabuena à Pampelune à la demande du roi de Navarre.
