Né dans une famille juive séfarade aisée de Bordeaux (d'ascendance portugaise), docteur en mathématiques de l'Université de Paris (1815). Principal disciple de Saint-Simon, il codifie le saint-simonisme après 1825. En mathématiques, il laisse la « formule de Rodrigues » (polynômes de Legendre), la formule de rotation de Rodrigues et les paramètres d'Euler–Rodrigues ; son mémoire de 1840 anticipe les quaternions.
