Alégrina Benchimol
Create the Great Book with our AIRegion: Tanger et Tétouan (Maroc), Afrique du Nord et Empire ottoman
History register · custodian, not owner
Alégrina Benchimol (born in 1885, death date unknown), from the Benchimol family of Tangier and Tétouan. Director of schools of the Alliance israélite universelle, she taught and directed, alongside her sisters, Alliance establishments in North Africa and the Ottoman Empire. The Benchimol sisters count among those Alliance-trained teachers who carried the education of Jewish girls across the Mediterranean, in communities where it was far from assured. The precise dates and posts of her career remain, to this day, incompletely documented.
