Writer, editor and Italian Jewish literary critic from Milan, from a Jewish family of Emilian origin. Co-founder of the literary journal Corrente (1938), forced into exile (Grenoble then Lugano) after the fascist racial laws of 1938. Founder of the antiquarian bookstore and then publishing house Il Polifilo (1941). Recipient of the Bagutta Prize 1970 for L'invenzione, author notably of Il Battello per Kew (translated The Trunk), a significant text on the Memory of Fascism and the Shoah in Italy.
