L'École Bezalel, fondée à Jérusalem en 1906 par Boris Schatz, voulut créer un style d'art juif national combinant motifs bibliques, orientalisme et artisanat. Elle produisit objets rituels, gravures et orfèvrerie marqués d'un syncrétisme entre Orient et Art nouveau. Ce projet a posé les fondations des arts visuels de l'État d'Israël.
