Bourgade du sud de la Judée, Yatta (l'antique Yuttah) est mentionnée dans la Bible (Jos 15,55 ; 21,16) et dans le Talmud comme lieu de résidence de familles sacerdotales (cohanim) après la destruction du Temple en 70. Des synagogues de l'époque byzantine y ont été identifiées.
