Monastir (nom ottoman de Bitola, en Macédoine du Nord) était le siège d'une des plus importantes communautés séfarades des Balkans, fondée après l'expulsion d'Espagne de 1492. La ville comptait plusieurs synagogues et un cimetière juif bien documenté ; la communauté fut presque entièrement anéantie pendant la Shoah.
