Bălți (en russe Beltsy) est la deuxième ville de Moldavie. Une importante communauté juive ashkénaze attestée depuis le XVIIIe siècle y prospéra, avec un rabbinat réputé ; la communauté fut en grande partie exterminée lors de la Shoah sous l'occupation roumano-allemande.
