Fils d'immigrés juifs (père originaire de Lubawa), il fonde en 1937 le cabinet Victor Mishcon & Co à Brixton, devenu Mishcon de Reya après la fusion de 1988 — l'un des plus grands cabinets d'avocats britanniques. Son cabinet représenta Diana, princesse de Galles, lors de son divorce. Fait pair à vie (baron Mishcon) en 1978, il fut porte-parole travailliste pour les affaires intérieures à la Chambre des lords et, en 1992, premier solicitor en exercice nommé Queen's Counsel honoraire.
