Torah Binder (wimpel) embroidered from Bavaria
إثراء الكتاب الأكبرוימפל רקום מבוואריה
(Embroidered Torah Binder (Wimpel) from Bavaria)
الوصف
Long band of linen girding the Torah scroll, made from the swaddling cloth that served at the circumcision of the boy, cut into strips and sewn end to end. Silk embroidery, more prized than painting in Bavaria, inscribes in large ornate letters the child's name, his date of birth and the formula of blessing for the Torah, marriage and good deeds, illustrated with a canopy.
