Bourg du Cap Bon tunisien, Soliman accueillit des familles juives sépharades descendant des réfugiés de la péninsule ibérique arrivés après 1492. La communauté, établie depuis le XVIIe siècle, était intégrée au réseau des communautés sépharades du nord de la Tunisie.
