Lenkoran est une ville côtière d'Azerbaïdjan méridional, au bord de la mer Caspienne, proche de la frontière iranienne. Elle a accueilli au XIXe et XXe siècle une communauté de Juifs des montagnes (Gorskie Evrei ou Juifs des montagnes), groupe caucasien de langue tat, qui y exerçaient principalement le commerce et l'artisanat.
