Beit She'an (Scythopolis), ville de la vallée du Jourdain, est un site archéologique majeur pour l'histoire juive. Des mosaïques de synagogues byzantines et de nombreuses inscriptions grecques y attestent une présence juive significative aux VIe–VIIe siècles. La ville fut également un important centre administratif byzantin avant la conquête musulmane.
