Akhaltsikhe (Akhaltsikhé), chef-lieu de la région de Samtskhe-Javakhéti en Géorgie méridionale, abrita une communauté juive géorgienne (« Gruzim ») remontant au moins au XVIe siècle. Après la conquête russe de 1829, des Juifs ottomans turcophones s'y installèrent, formant une communauté distincte aux côtés des Gruzim. La ville comptait plusieurs synagogues actives jusqu'au XXe siècle.
