Né et mort à Rome, il fut rabbin de la communauté à partir du 9 avril 1702 et l'une des figures majeures du judaïsme italien de son temps. Médecin autant que rabbin, il intervint auprès des autorités pontificales pour défendre la communauté du ghetto et fut consulté comme autorité par des communautés d'Europe.
