Fils du Chacham Moshe Tajir, Rosh Av Beit Din (chef du tribunal rabbinique) à Jérusalem. Il prit à 30 ans un poste de rav au Turkestan qui devint celui de grand-rabbin, qu'il occupa dix-huit ans ; il épousa Miriam Pinchasov (famille Pinchasov/Mamon de Boukhara). Rentré à Jérusalem en 1914, il fut ensuite grand-rabbin de Beyrouth puis rav à Damas.
