Médecin personnel du roi Jean II de Castille et « alcalde examinador » (directeur) de la corporation des chirurgiens. Il est l'auteur de deux traités médicaux en castillan vernaculaire, dont le célèbre Menor daño de la medicina, manuel d'hygiène et de thérapeutique. Il fut le père du chroniqueur Mosén Diego de Valera.
