Fondé en 2004 par un comité international de généalogistes éminents et enregistré comme association israélienne, l'IIJG a ouvert ses portes à la Bibliothèque nationale d'Israël en janvier 2006. Il vise à établir la généalogie juive comme discipline académique, en finançant et coordonnant des projets de recherche savante et en abritant le Paul Jacobi Center.
Dit Grote Boek heeft nog geen gepubliceerde hoofdstukken. De hoofdstukken — elk met zijn eigen register, epistemische status en bronnen — worden toegevoegd naargelang de redactionele verrijking en de geassisteerde generatie vorderen.
