Fondateur de la XIXe dynastie, ancien vizir devenu pharaon. Bien que son règne fut bref, il inaugura la lignée des Ramsès qui domina l'histoire égyptienne pendant un siècle et constitue le cadre historique le plus probable de l'Exode biblique.
