Deuteronomy is the fifth book of the Torah. Modern scholarship identifies it as the "Book of the Law" discovered in the Jerusalem Temple in 622 BCE under King Josiah, triggering a major religious reform. The Shema Israel, the central Jewish declaration of God's unity recited morning and evening, comes from Deuteronomy 6:4.
