Traditional narrative
Les gloses du Rema (Rabbi Moïse Isserles) complètent le Shulkhan Arukh en ajoutant les coutumes ashkénazes partout où elles divergent de la tradition séfarade de Karo. La métaphore est éloquente : Karo a dressé la Table (Shulkhan Arukh), le Rema y a ajouté la Nappe (Mapah). Sans ces gloses, le Shulkhan Arukh n'aurait pas été accepté par le monde ashkénaze.
Commemorative function
Le yahrzeit du Rema (33e jour du Omer) est célébré à Cracovie, où sa synagogue et sa tombe sont des lieux de pèlerinage.
