The day after the attack on the headquarters of the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina in Buenos Aires, an aircraft belonging to a Panamanian domestic carrier exploded in flight shortly after takeoff from Colón and crashed in the jungle.

There were no survivors. A significant portion of the passengers were Jewish businessmen from the free trade zone of Colón, who regularly used that route. Debris showed traces of explosives.

The proximity of the two attacks, one day apart on two continents, directed the investigation toward a coordinated operation. The Panamanian case has remained largely unresolved, unlike that of Buenos Aires, and remains little known outside Central America.
