Jewish and Israeli passengers are separated from others and held after the liberation of other hostages
In early September, a commando unit hijacked several airliners and landed three of them at a disused airfield in the Jordanian desert, near Zarqa, renamed for the occasion "Revolution Airport."
The hostages were held there for several days. Passengers identified as Jewish or Israeli, based on their passports and names, were separated from the others and kept in detention after the first groups were released. The empty aircraft were dynamited in front of cameras.
This sorting, carried out before witnesses of all nationalities, made as deep an impression on Western public opinion as the hijackings themselves. The crisis triggered the confrontation between the Jordanian army and the Palestinian organizations, known as Black September.
