The law of lending to the poor is here, with a formula that Jewish charitable tradition has never ceased to cite: "thou shalt open thy hand." The remission of debts every seven years is prescribed therein. It is from these verses that the relief funds, the dowries for orphans, and the interest-free loan societies will emerge, whose community archives, from Morocco to Poland, preserve the registers.
