Limestone ossuary from the Jerusalem region

In the Second Temple period, Judean Jews gathered the bones of their dead, after decomposition, in limestone boxes called ossuaries. Often carved with rosettes and the deceased's name, they shed light on burial practice and onomastics of the era.
