Suez (Al-Suweis), a port at the entrance to the Red Sea, had a small Jewish community in the 16th–19th centuries documented in Ottoman sources. Its commercial role on the Mediterranean–Red Sea axis made it a frequently traveled route for Jewish merchants between Egypt and India.
