Apamea on the Orontes (present-day Qal'at al-Madiq, Syria), a major Hellenistic and Roman city, had a Jewish community attested by inscriptions and rabbinic sources. The famous mosaic of Apamea (third century) includes iconographic representations some of which have been linked to Jewish cultural influence in the region.
