Fils de Sa'īd (Sa'adia) al-Ḍāhirī, originaire de Kawkaban (district d'al-Mahwit). Considéré comme l'un des plus grands poètes juifs yéménites. Il compose sa prose rimée alors qu'il est emprisonné avec la communauté de Sanaa en 1568. Son œuvre offre un témoignage de première main sur Safed et la yeshiva de Joseph Karo.
