Yiẓḥaḳi, Abraham ben David

Palestinian rabbi and opponent of Sabbateanism born in 1661 and died in Jerusalem on June 10, 1729, grandson through his mother of Abraham Azoulaï. Student of Moses Galante and later master of Moses Hagiz, he actively opposes the followers of Shabbataï Tsevi, signs in 1708 the excommunication of Nehemiah Hayoun pronounced by the rabbinate of Jerusalem, then campaigns against him in Livorno in 1711 and, the following year, in Amsterdam, before joining, upon his return to Jerusalem in 1714, a new excommunication in Constantinople. He publishes a collection of responsa, "Zera' Abraham" (1732-1733).

YIẒḤAḲI, ABRAHAM BEN DAVID

Rabbi palestinien et opposant aux Sabbatéens ; né en 1661 ; mort à Jérusalem le 10 juin 1729 ; petit-fils par sa mère d'Abraham Azulai. Il fut un élève de Moses Galante, et fut à son tour le maître de Moses Ḥagiz. Yiẓḥaḳi s'illustra par son opposition aux partisans de Shabbethai Ẓebi, et exhorta les rabbins de Smyrne à enquêter sur les écrits de Miguel Cardoso. Il signa la lettre d'excommunication lancée contre Nehemiah Ḥayyun par le rabbinat de Jérusalem en 1708. Plus tard, Yiẓḥaḳi fut envoyé en Europe pour collecter des contributions, et quand il était à Constantinople, il écrivit une préface au « Bene Ya'aḳob » de Jacob Sason. En 1711, il arriva à Livourne, où il agita fortement contre Ḥayyun ; il fit de même à Amsterdam l'année suivante, avec Ẓebi Ashkenazi. En revenant à Jérusalem en 1714, Yiẓḥaḳi passa par Constantinople, où il se joignit aux autres rabbins dans l'excommunication de Ḥayyun.

Parmi les œuvres de Yiẓḥaḳi, seul le « Zera' Abraham », responsa sur les quatre Ṭurim, fut publié (vol. i., sur Oraḥ Ḥayyim et Yoreh De'ah, Smyrne, 1733 ; vol. ii., sur Eben ha 'Ezer et Ḥoshen Mishpaṭ, Constantinople, 1732). Ses autres œuvres sont : « Iggeret Shibbuḳin » et « Ketobet Ḳa'aḳea' », toutes deux sur les hérésies de Ḥayyun ; une œuvre sur le « Yad » de Maïmonide ; et des novelles sur le Shulḥan 'Aruk.
