Grandson of Rabbi Israël of Ruzhin, he established his court around 1887 in Boiany (Bukovina), founding the Hasidic dynasty of Boyan, a branch of Ruzhin-Sadigura. Nicknamed the « Pachad Yitzchok », he was the first rebbe of Boyan until World War I and died in Vienna in 1917; his four sons founded courts in Czernowitz, Leipzig, Lviv, and New York.
