Sa réputation d'érudition attira des dizaines de milliers de fidèles (environ 40 000 personnes à ses funérailles en 1910). Auteur de « Yismach Yisrael », texte fondamental de l'idéologie d'Aleksander, rédigé avec son frère Shmuel Tsvi.
