Born in Sana'a, emigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1929, butcher in Tel-Aviv, he founded in 1942 the « Mif'al le-hasifat ginzei Teiman » (project for the uncovering of Yemenite manuscripts). Over six decades he assembled the largest private collection of Yemenite Jewish manuscripts (tens of thousands of documents and fragments, many extracted from bindings), now at the National Library of Israel. He published nine works based on these texts, with notably the collaboration of Prof. Yosef Tobi.
