History register · custodian, not owner
Born in Jerusalem in a Sephardic family of rabbis and scholars from Izmir, he was one of the first modern Hebrew writers of Sephardic-Eastern origin. Observing that Hebrew literature depicted only the Ashkenazi world, he undertook to describe the life, language and customs of Sephardic Jews of the Middle East, from « Lunah » to his great novels.
