Né à Sana'a, disciple du rabbin Yiḥyeh Kapach (fondateur du Dor Deah). Il fut le seul photographe juif au Yémen à la veille de la grande émigration (« Tapis volant ») : la quasi-totalité des photographies de la communauté yéménite envoyées en Israël sont de lui. Mort en Israël dans les années 1970 ; un album, « Sana'a et ses environs dans les photographies de Yehiel Haibi », parut à titre posthume en 1985.
