Yakoub (Yaacov) Bchiri, born November 12, 1912, was a major figure in Judeo-Tunisian music from Djerba: he animated weddings, celebrations and the pilgrimage to the Ghriba, notably through the songs of « Taâlila ». Died December 3, 2008. His recordings (Houmt Souk, June 2000) were published on CD by the International Archives of Popular Music / Museum of Ethnography Geneva (2001), with a bilingual French/English booklet.
