Vittorio Polacco

Born in Padua on May 10, 1859, of Polish Jewish descent, he was professor of civil law at the University of Padua (1885-1918) then at that of Rome (1918-1926). Member of the Italian Senate from 1910, he also taught law to Prince Umberto of Savoy. In 1925, he delivered his sole political speech, pleading for freedom of conscience and the protection of religious minorities. A Jewish school in Rome bears his name.

Juriste italien d'origine polonaise ; né à Padoue le 10 mai 1859. Depuis 1884, il est professeur de droit civil à l'Université de Padoue. Ses principaux ouvrages sont : « Della Divisione Operata da Ascendenti Fra Discendenti », Padoue, 1884 ; « Della Dazione in Pagamento », vol. i., _ib._ 1888 ; « Contro il Divorzio », _ib._ 1892 ; « La Questione del Divorzio e gli Israeliti in Italia », _ib._ 1894 ; « Le Obbligazioni nel Diritto Civile Italiano », _ib._ 1898. Il a également collaboré avec de nombreux articles sur des sujets juridiques à l'« Archivio Giuridico », aux « Atti della R. Accademia di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti » de Padoue, aux « Atti del R. Istituto Veneto » et à d'autres publications.
