History register · custodian, not owner

Spanish controversialist forced by persecution to defend his faith against an attempted forced conversion, stripped of his possessions but remained faithful to his convictions; chosen as rabbi by the community of Avila, he conducted there around 1372, before Christians and Muslims, a public debate with the convert Jean de Valladolid, whom he refutes in four sessions. In 1374, at the request of his community, he put in writing, in the form of a dialogue between a Jew and a Christian, the substance of these debates — the Trinity, the virginity of Mary, the sacrifice, the teachings of Jesus — in a work entitled Ézer ha-Emouna, manuscripts of which are found in Oxford, Berlin, Parma and Breslau.

TORDESILLAS, MOÏSE HA-KOHEN DE

This entry is not yet translated: it is shown in French.
