Rabbin et mashpia réputé du mouvement Habad-Loubavitch. Envoyé par le Rabbi RaShaB puis actif au Caucase (Azerbaïdjan, Géorgie) où il fonda écoles et yeshivot ; emprisonné en Sibérie pour son activité juive, il gagna les États-Unis en 1938 et fut le doyen (rosh) de la yeshiva centrale Loubavitch de New York de 1940 à sa mort.
