Shlomo ben Abraham ibn Aderet (1235–1310), known as the Rashba, was rabbi of the great synagogue of Barcelona for fifty years and the major halakhic authority of his time (nicknamed « El Rab d'España »). A student of Nahmanide and Yona Gerondi, he received questions from throughout the Jewish world; his thousands of responsa profoundly shaped the subsequent codification of Jewish law, through to the Shulchan Arukh.
